An ActiveX barcode object may be linked to a Word mail merge field from a data source with a VBA macro. Within the VBA macro, the following functions accomplish this:

- NOTE: Merge1 is the mailmerge field you want to be encoded in the barcode and
- BarCode1 is the name of the barcode ActiveX object.

- Select the row to merge
ActiveDocument.MailMerge.DataSource.ActiveRecord = RowToMerge

- Determine the data to be encoded
DataToEncode = ActiveDocument.MailMerge.DataSource.DataFields("Merge1").Value

- Send this data to the ActiveX Control
ActiveDocument.BarCode1.DataToEncode = DataToEncode

- Print out the document
ActiveDocument.PrintOut

For more information, refer to the mail merge portion of the ActiveX manual and download the entire VBA module of the ActiveX Mail Merge Example. The download also contains example files tested in Word 2000 and Word 2010 that can be run to test the functionality. Before running the example, be sure to first install the Linear ActiveX Control from
