Code 128 Set C adds a zero at the beginning of the data/scan

I have to encode data in Set C for Code 128. However, whenever I have an odd amount of data (Example: 302938476), it adds a zero to the beginning of the scan. 302938476 becomes 0302938476. Is something wrong?

The Code 128 symbology includes three character sets: Code 128 A, Code 128 B, and Code 128 C. Code 128 Auto, a "fourth set", is a combination of A, B, and C.

Code 128 Set C encodes data in pairs. Think of the data as a group of shoes. If there are six shoes (an even amount of data), then the shoes can be separated into three pairs. Assigning two shoes to a pair is also called interleaving.

If one-half of a pair of shoes is missing (an odd amount of data), then the shoes cannot be interleaved. Code 128 Set C, as well as Interleaved 2 of 5, inserts a zero at the beginning of the data to create an even amount of data, or in the example, an even amount of shoes. Once there is an even amount of shoes (data), the shoes can be interleaved.

EXAMPLE 1
Example 1 displays an odd amount of data. To create an even amount of data, a zero is inserted at the beginning. The data is interleaved into three pairs. The !, 7, and M is the encoded data (interleaved).

EXAMPLE 2
Example 2 displays the original data in the first column, the encoded data in the second column, and the encoded data with the barcode font applied in the third column. The barcode scan is 012345.

The Í and Î are the start/stop characters. The q is the check digit.
