Resolved Questions

Aztec barcode not working properly in Crystal Reports

We have a requirement for Aztec barcodes. We use the PDF417, QR, and Aztec Crystal Reports Generators. The reasons behind using Aztec is that we program our barcode scanners to do particular tasks when they read an Aztec barcode and they do something different when they read another barcode type e.g. QR.

Aztec is used throughout our production facilities for batch numbers so changing to another barcode type would be a very expensive change. We have tried the standard Aztec barcode, but it doesn't scan very well with any of our equipment (Zebra/Honeywell). They eventually read after numerous attempts if you move the scanner approximately 1.5ft from the barcode. When compared to a QR or PDF417 generated from IDAutomation in Crystal, they scan instantly. We have also compared against an Aztec from Nicelabel and Bartender which also scans nicely. Having spoken to support we tried the GS1 version of the Aztec barcode which scans much more efficiently, however, we have encountered an issue with certain types of data in the barcode which causes it to fall over.
If we encode “P20240366-4-3 & ~d013” it works perfectly.
However, the first part (P2024...) comes from our ERP and is not manually keyed into Crystal Reports, therefore the data to encode looks like {Field} & "~d013”
With the particular numbers above (not all data), this caused the barcode to produce an error (attached).
This error is re-creatable if you set data to encode in the GS1 Aztec as “P20240366-4-3" & "~d013” We are using Crystal Reports 2020.
