PDF417 Encoding Multiple Fields

Our customer requires 16 data fields (plus envelope information) to fit into one barcode (one string fed into DataToEncode). I need an example of concatenating multiple fields.

Am I correct?

Operating System: Windows

Application: Crystal Reports

If you mean functions, you may encode them using Crystal Reports chr function and the decimal representation from the ASCII Table (the wanted characters must be on the table, or they cannot be represented).

For example, to encode ABC<CR>123 (CR is short for Carriage Return or the Enter key):

DataToEncode = “ABC” & chr(9) & “123”

Resulting barcode*:

*To see the function/lower-ASCII/unprintable/hidden characters from the scan, the following steps are necessary:
• Enable ‘lower ASCII’ (or a similarly named setting) on the scanner (see the scanner manual for more information).
• Use a program that will show the characters, such as the Free Barcode Scanner ASCII String Decoder.

Thank you for your response. How do you include envelope information that uses special characters? I need the following:
• Message Header
• Format Header
• Format Trailer
• Message Trailer

All the data to be encoded into a barcode itself is to go into the DataToEncode. Although we have the general Native Crystal Reports User Manual as a reference, you may generally concatenate various dataset fields with either the + or & operators in Crystal Reports (see SAP’s documentation for more details).

Generic Example:
DataToEncode = {Table1.Field1} & {Table1.Field2}
