Why does the IMb show up as a Postnet barcode when I apply the font?

When I apply the font to my value, it does not look like an Intelligent Mail barcode, it looks like a Postnet barcode.

Ben	Best Answer Intelligent Mail, as a font, is a barcode symbology that requires its data to be encoded using a font encoder. When an Intelligent Mail font is applied to data that is not encoded, it will appear as a non-scannable Postnet barcode. Why do I need to encode data? What font encoders can I use to encode data? What will my Intelligent Mail encoded data look like using IDAutomation font encoders?
