April-2016 Update: Native 2D and Data Matrix Native Crystal Report Generators

An update to the Crystal Reports Data Matrix Native Barcode Generator and Native 2D Barcode Generator for Crystal Reports was completed to resolve a bug that only encodes FNC1 or <232> before the first Application Identifier. The update will create and correctly encode the second GS1 FNC1 by ensuring the code inserts an <232> instead of a <GS>.

Additional information about the update:

For GS1-DataMatrix, there is a requirement to encode the FNC1 before any Application Identifier that requires an FNC1.

Example Data:
(01)01234567890123(17)012345(10)ABCD1234(410)0123456789012

In this example, the FNC1 is required before the verify first AI, 01. Based on further reading of the GS1 documentation, the FNC1 must also be encoded before the AI, 410.

Example Data that shows where the FNC1 is required:
FNC101012345678901231701234510ABCD1234FNC14100123456789012

With IDAutomation Data Matrix products, to encode the FNC1, the user must enter ~1 with ApplyTilde enabled.

Example Data that shows where the FNC1 is encoded using ~1 with IDAutomation products.
~101012345678901231701234510ABCD1234~14100123456789012

When the barcode is scanned using a verifier or into an application that can properly handle GS1-DataMatrix, the results will display the output as:

<232>01012345678901231701234510ABCD1234<232>4100123456789012

The <232> confirms that it is the FNC1 character encoded into the barcode before the Application Identifier.

For IDAutomation Data Matrix products prior to April 2016, there is a bug that only encodes FNC1 or <232> before the first Application Identifier.

Whenever ~1 is encoded before any other AI, it encodes a <GS> (Group Separator) which is incorrect. Therefore, anyone currently using our GS1-DataMatrix products prior to April 2016 to create and scan barcodes using a verifier or into a GS1 application will receive:
<232>01012345678901231701234510ABCD1234<GS>4100123456789012

The update will create and correctly encode the second FNC1 by ensuring the code inserts a <232> instead of a <GS> whenever ~1 is entered as below:
<232>01012345678901231701234510ABCD1234<232>4100123456789012
