Why does your Code 128 Font Package state that it is compatible with Mac?

I am on a Mac and your Technical and Sales staff has recommended the Code 128 Fonts for Mac or Universal Fonts over the "standard" Code 128 Font Package.

The package says Compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix, iOS, Android, and other operating systems.

Why are the other packages recommended?

Though fonts files (IDAutomationC128) are compatible with Mac, many of the encoders that produce the encoded data are not fully compatible. Our FileMaker font encoder Plug-In (for Mac) is an exception as it can properly encode data and use the Code 128 Font Package.

Problems with Code 128 on Mac

It is possible to encode data directly on a PC for the normal Code 128 when the file is saved as a CSV for Mac. After the encoded file is transferred to Mac, the normal Code 128 font can be applied.

However, when encoding the data directly on Mac, the start/stop characters in the encoded data are not recognizable characters and will cause a problem where it places empty boxes for characters, not in the Roman character set.

Empty box problem on Mac

The compatible with Mac notice is strictly for users running FileMaker and for users that encode the data on a PC before passing the data file to Mac.

If running Mac, always consider the Code 128 for Mac as the first option.
