IMpb FNC1 failure

  • Tagged With:-
  • Impb

I'm trying to create an IMpb barcode through Crystal Reports 11 and sometimes through VB.NET.

The formula I'm using for Crystal Reports is: IDAutomation_Code128 ("420" & {table.Zip} & {table.TrackNumber})

The way I'm using it in VB.NET is New TextArea(FontEncoder.Code128("420" & Address.Zip & thepackage.TrackingNumber, 0, 0)

My labels failed through the USPS and the reason they stated was:
"Invalid Barcode Structure, the FNC1’s were omitted in the Scan Analysis Report"

Can you please tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

Operating System: Windows XP

Application: Crystal Reports, VB.NET

To encode the FNC, the data must be encoded using one of several methods.

If you are generating the barcodes directly in Crystal Reports, IDAutomation recommends the Crystal Font Formulas or the IDAutomation UFL to encode data.

If using the UFL, select the IDAutomation_Code128ApplyTilde function and ensure the AIs are surrounded with parentheses--this will encode the FNC.

UFL Example in Crystal that encodes FNC

If using the Font Formula, set Apply Tilde to True and ensure the AIs are surrounded with parentheses--this will encode the FNC.

Font Formula Example in Crystal that encodes FNC

NOTE: Both examples generate SSCC18. However, the process of encoding the FNC is the same as IMpb.

If you use the .NET dll to encode data, verify that Apply Tilde is set to True and that you encode the FNC by adding parentheses to the AI.

For 2-digit AIs, use ~212.
For 3-digit AIs, use ~213.
For 4-digit AIs, use ~214.
For 5-digit AIs, use ~215.

Take a look at the Code 128 Font Specifications. It lists the XDimension and the point size that will create the specific XDimension.

OK. I was just using the IDAutomation_Code128 function in Crystal.

I just changed my formula to: IDAutomation_Code128ApplyTilde("~213" & "420" & {table.Zip} & "~212" & {table.TrackNumber})

Does it matter which font to use? I had been using IDAutomationC128L with a font size of 16 but when my results came back from the USPS they said: The range of widths of narrow bars and spaces (X-dimension) is a minimum of 0.013 inch and a maximum of 0.021 inch, results were 0.012 inch.

So, then I changed my font to IDAutomationC128M and increased the font size to 18.

Can you please let me know which font (out of the IDAutomationC128 list) is the best to use for the IMpb?
