Spacing off when printing MICR from PDF

I have keyed the test strings mentioned in the ID Automation MICR font documentation into a MS Word document. When I print that document the spacing comes out perfect at the 4 inch mark and all of the characters are spaced exactly as the bank wants them. If I print that document to a PDF then print it, the spacing is different. It shortens the string length by almost 3/16". This puts the first character in the right spot but then they drift out of spec as you go across the string. What would cause the font spacing to print differently from a PDF?

I figured out part of our issue. The print driver was printing the PDF with the fit to page option. I found that and changed it to print the document at the actual size and the font string measures out at 4" now. Unfortunately when I print a PDF of a check at the actual size it cuts off the top and the bottom, showing me that our form is too big so we have work to do there.

Hello Jason,

We're happy to hear you're able to generate it correctly within Word, however we understand you're experiencing some difficulty getting the MICR Font to print from Word to a PDF. When it comes to PDF Generation, the rendering often has little to do with the font itself and more to do with the application printing, as seen in the forum post about Crystal Reports - Barcode Shrinks when Printing to PDF. We would recommend testing a different PDF Generator.

You may also want to reach out to SAP HANA support to ensure there aren't any rendering issues on that side. Finally, we recommend having the bank review the printed output to confirm whether the issue is simply character spacing or if the font itself is being compressed. If needed, we offer alternative MICR fonts with wider character sets that may better suit your layout requirements.

Let us know if you have any further questions.
